2017 - 2018 Schedule

The International Center for Japanese Culture offers non-credit tuition courses in Japanese arts, culture and language for adults. There are three options for enrolling in ICJC community school classes:

1. Day Classes: Special group classes in Japanese cooking and Japanese language are held throughout the year.

2. Private and Semi-private lessons arranged according to the student’s schedule are an attractive option for those who seek flexibility.

3. Special One-Day Workshops throughout the year. Please see the ICJC calendar and news postings.

Classes are taught by professional artists and craftsmen who share their expertise in various Japanese-related disciplines. These include Japanese language, tea ceremony, calligraphy, Japanese dance, Japanese history, Japanese film, architecture, flower-arranging, kimono/clothing design, 13-string koto, shamisen, taiko and much more.

JAPANESE COOKING CLASS
One-Day Wednesday Morning Beginner Workshops
〜 日本料理1日ワークショップ 〜

ICJC presents the 7th Annual “Japanese Cooking One-Day Beginner Workshops”. Nine one-day workshops on Wednesdays will be held focusing on three sessions and three themes:

Session 1: Japanese Broths including soba and tempura
2017: September 27, October 18, November 22

Session 2: Sushi Dishes including inari, tekka-maki
2018: January 10, January 31, February 21

Session 3: Main Dishes including tonkatsu, kara-age, shabu shabu
2018: April 4, May 9, May 30


Workshop Registration Information and Schedule
Day: Wednesdays – specific dates listed above.
Time: 10:00AM – 1:00PM
Location: ICJC Building (Annex First Floor)
Fee: One session (3 classes): 15,000円 (this includes all materials)
One class: 5,500円 (this includes all materials)
Class Limit: 4-8students
Language: English
Registration: It is recommended students register for one full workshop session. Class size minimum is required or class will be cancelled. Each workshop session and or class requires separate registration and should be made by one week in advance by emailing info@icjc.jp. Confirmation will be sent out automatically. Teacher Profile: Ms. Mori has been teaching the delicate art of Japanese cuisine to both Japanese and foreigners for several years. She has presented several cooking classes for the YIS PTSA as well as for various other special events in the Yokohama area. Ms. Mori’s specialties include traditional Japanese food incorporating natural and local ingredients from various regions of Japan. She looks forward to sharing her delicious recipes with the class. This is Ms. Mori's seventh year at ICJC.

2018: January 17, February 14, March 14

Session 3: Japanese-style Western Dishes (Croquette, Omelette-Rice, Pilaf, Shrimp-Fry)
2018: April 11, May 16, June 6

Late Summer and Autumn 2017 Schedule
Thursday Morning Classes

〜 Beginner's Level 〜
ICJC presents the 7th Annual “Japanese Language Class” (Beginner’s Level). The Late Summer and Autumn 2016 has 2 sessions (6 classes each) focusing on distinct themes for everyday communication and living comfortably in Japan. These classes are designed for new and returning students.

Session 1 Themes: Basic expressions, Daily greetings Self-introduction, Numbers
Session 1 Dates: 2017: September 7, 14, 21 28, October 5, 12

Session 2 Themes: Shopping (including drug store), Ordering food, Doctor's visit, Taxi
Session 2 Dates: 2017: November 2, 9, 16, 30 December 7, 14

Teacher Profile: Tomoko Tsuji has a varied background living, working and teaching in settings with foreigners. Having lived in Holland from 1993-1996, Tsuji sensei began teaching Japanese as a hobby. She felt a close kinship with teaching and eventually pursued her Japanese teaching license graduating in 2000. Her forte is combining Japanese language and culture in courses designed to inspire and stimulate student’s individual learning abilities.

Private lessons may be organized based on student's schedule weekly. Please contact the ICJC office for more information.

3. Special One-Day Workshops
Special one-day workshops (Ikebana, Calligraphy, Temari and much more) usually complete with a traditional homemade Japanese obento lunch are held throughout the year. Please see the ICJC calendar and news postings for these exciting upcoming events.

All tuition and additional fees must be paid at the time of registration. In the event of a class cancellation, 100% will be reimbursed. Payments can be made in two ways:
